These shoes fit slightly small. (Take one size up)
Size guide - take one size up

If you are in doubt about the size or have wide/swollen feet, we recommend that you take 1 size up.

If you can't find the half size, take the larger size. Example: Do you usually wear a size UK 7? Take size UK 7.5.

If you plan on wearing cushioned socks, keep in mind that they increase the volume of your foot, so in that case as well, we can advise going for a size up.

Note: The length of the insole is usually about 8 mm longer than the length of your foot. In the table you will find both the length of the insole of the shoe and the length your foot should be.

Note: We generally recommend one size up for shoes in the "winter collection" because these shoes fit a little small.

The shoes in the "training collection" or "casual collection" have uppers made of a more elastic material, so they fit most foot widths, even if your feet are wider or swollen. We therefore recommend a regular size in that case.

The main problem with regular shoes is that they are not built for the safety of our aging parents.

They are designed according to industrial fashion standards, ignoring the specific needs of the aging body. The worst part is that we often don’t realize the danger until a fall actually happens.

Muscles work on a simple principle: “use it or lose it.” When we place an older adult’s foot in a thick, cushioned shoe, it’s like putting the body on a sofa all day. The result is long-term weakening of the feet, making them unable to react quickly enough to prevent a fall.

The 4 most dangerous features of regular shoes for seniors:

  1. CUSHIONED – Creates Instability

Thick cushioning creates a “walking on a mattress” effect that destabilizes the foot. Even worse, it blocks sensory feedback from the ground. If the brain cannot feel the floor, it cannot instruct the muscles to stabilize the body in time, increasing the risk of tripping.
  2. RIGID – The “Cast” Effect

A stiff, rigid shoe restricts natural movement, acting like a cast. This leads to weak muscles and stiff joints. A weak foot cannot grip the floor to correct balance during a stumble, turning a minor slip into a dangerous fall.
  3. TOE SPRING – Reduces the Base of Support

Most shoes curl the toes upward, lifting them off the ground. This prevents the toes from spreading out to stabilize the body (like the roots of a tree). Less contact with the ground means a much smaller base of support and poorer balance.
  4. ELEVATED HEEL – Pushes the Body Forward

Even a slight heel lift shifts the center of gravity forward, constantly tipping the senior off-balance. This unnatural posture forces the body to fight for stability with every step, increasing fatigue and fall risk.

US vs Modern Shoes

Modern shoes were never designed for aging feet.

Most modern shoes are designed for style and general use, not for the changing needs of aging feet. Their thick, rigid soles can block ground feeling and don’t really support natural balance. Our barefoot design is built specifically for seniors, with a flat, flexible sole and roomy toe box to help feet stay active, stable and connected to the ground.

Even a slight heel lift shifts the center of gravity forward, constantly tipping the senior off-balance. This unnatural posture forces the body to fight for stability with every step, increasing fatigue and fall risk.

There are countless advantages, but surely one of the most important is that barefoot shoes (with zero-drop sole) promotes less reliance on footwear and more reliance on strong foot and leg muscles. This improves body posture, stride and overall performance.

The other very important benefit is that these barefoot shoes feature a wide toe box that allows for greater stabilitymore balance and a significantly more comfortable toe position, unlike all normal trainers that have a narrow toe box.

Barefoot shoes are designed in such a way that they do not compromise the freedom of movement of the foot and allow all movements.

Barefoot shoes are designed to allow the feet to move in the most natural way possible, just like when walking barefoot.

In contrast, typical athletic shoes feature elements such as arch supports, thick cushioning, and raised heels that prevent the feet from moving as they normally would.

And guess what?

When the feet are allowed to move, they become stronger, and strengthening the core foot muscles helps prevent injuries like plantar fasciitis.

Of course, if you have never worn barefoot shoes before, we do not recommend initially wearing them for 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, as foot sensitivity is different, and your feet need to gradually adapt.

But undoubtedly, in the long run, your feet will become stronger, and this could bring benefits to those suffering from plantar fasciitis, metatarsalgia, and other foot inflammations.

What our customers say

L

Lisa M.

I walked ~17,000 steps a day for 14 days in Europe in my Be BodyWise barefoot shoes – zero pain. Every other brand (Hoka, Brooks, On, Puma, Birkenstock) made the pad of my foot throb after an hour. These feel like a warm hug for my feet.

M

Mark T.

Got Be BodyWise barefoot boots for my 78-year-old mom after she fell on ice last winter. She hates “old people shoes” but actually wears these because they look normal. She keeps saying, “I can feel where I’m stepping now,” and doesn’t shuffle as much.

R

Rachel k.

I’m on my feet 8+ hours a day and Be BodyWise barefoot shoes are the first pair that don’t leave me in pain. Lots of toe room, nothing squished, no burning at the end of the day. I don’t rush to kick them off when I get home.

E

Emily S.

My 81-year-old dad used to freeze at the top of his icy front steps after a fall. With Be BodyWise barefoot boots, he says he can feel the frost and adjust. He still holds the railing, but he actually goes out alone again.

G

Giulia P.

At first Be BodyWise barefoot shoes felt strange, but after a week my hallux valgus hurt less. My foot feels more stable and toned and I can walk further without discomfort. Definitely worth the switch.

D

Daniel K.

My 73-year-old mom almost went down in a slushy parking lot, so I bought her Be BodyWise barefoot boots. I sold them as “cute walking boots,” not safety gear. Now she says she feels more sure-footed on wet pavement and isn’t scared to go alone.

A

Aaron L.

The grip on Be BodyWise barefoot shoes is insane – better than hiking boots I paid 3x more for. Rocks, wet roots, mud… I feel secure with every step. They were supposed to be for city walks and turned into my go-to shoes.

R

Rachel D.

My 69-year-old mom stopped going out in winter after a bad fall. With Be BodyWise barefoot boots, she tells me, “I can feel when it’s slick.” She still moves carefully, but she actually goes for walks again, even without me.

H

Henry C.

A year in Be BodyWise barefoot shoes and my legs and feet feel younger. My calves are stronger and my small bunions are slowly retracting. Letting my feet work naturally was a game changer.

L

Laura B.

We got Be BodyWise barefoot boots for my 77-year-old father. He stopped sliding his feet and started taking shorter, more deliberate steps. He says, “I feel the uneven spots before they trip me.”

N

Nancy F.

Be BodyWise barefoot shoes fit comfortably even with my bunion and long second toes. Nothing jams or rubs. I just found out they have winter boots too – that’s my Christmas gift to myself.

O

Olivia H.

My 80-year-old aunt used to mutter “I’m going to fall” every time we walked to the car in winter. In Be BodyWise barefoot boots, she says she doesn’t feel as wobbly. She still holds my arm, but the constant fear is gone.

J

Jason P.

My dad went to the ER after slipping on his three front steps. I bought him Be BodyWise barefoot boots and he calls them his “honest boots” because “they tell me when the ground is lying.” He feels slick spots sooner and adjusts — and I can finally breathe when it snows.

D

David N.

Got Be BodyWise barefoot boots for my 76-year-old mom after I noticed she was shuffling even on the kitchen floor. Within a few days she said, “I feel more grounded in these.” She lifts her feet more and doesn’t cling to the furniture as much when she walks.

H

Helen J., 72

I use a cane and was terrified of winter sidewalks. In my Be BodyWise barefoot boots, I can feel where it’s slick before I put all my weight down. I still move slowly, but the constant fear is gone. I actually enjoy my short daily walk again.

S

Sarah W.

We bought Be BodyWise barefoot boots for my 79-year-old grandma so she could keep coming to the grandkids’ games in winter. She loves that they’re light and easy to put on, and we love that she isn’t sliding around on the bleacher steps anymore.

T

Tom R.

My 82-year-old dad usually says, “It came out of nowhere” after every near-slip. In Be BodyWise barefoot boots he told me, “I felt the ice before I fully stepped.” That one sentence made the purchase worth it for me.

K

Karen L.

Before Be BodyWise barefoot boots, my toes went numb after 10–15 minutes outside, even with thick socks. Now my feet stay warm and I can still feel the ground.

M

Miguel P.

I’m a delivery driver out in the cold 8–10 hours a day. In my old boots, my toes were frozen solid by stop number 20. With Be BodyWise barefoot boots, my feet stay dry and warm, and I can still move my toes and feel the surface. Huge difference on long winter shifts.

M

Monica S.

I used to sit in my car with the heater blasting on my feet every couple of hours because they turned into ice in regular winter boots. Since switching to Be BodyWise barefoot boots, my feet stay warm and I can actually feel my toes the whole time I’m out. No more “thawing breaks” in the middle of errands.
